Closure of St Dunstan’s

The churchwardens have been closely monitoring the rapid rise in the number of people catching Covid-19 in our local area – perhaps due to the new variant that we are told is much easier to pass on.

We have been in discussion with the local clergy to explore the consequences of closing and options for providing pastoral support by other means. We have been in discussion with many parishioners, and whilst there is an obvious desire to keep St Dunstan’s open, most have told us they feel the situation is now such that they will not attend services, even if they are available. Another major factor that emerged is St Mary’s have decided to close, and we think people will find it both confusing and contradictory if 2 churches serving the same population arrive at different conclusions about remaining open.

So, even though the law permits services to carry on in the present lockdown, we feel the situation is such that we have no alternative but to close St Dunstan’s. If we can reopen safely on 7th February, then we will, but if the data suggests otherwise, we will continue the closure and let you know of that decision.

Services on Zoom

While St Dunstan's is not holding a normal Sunday Service, Mary and Ted Kent will host one by Zoom. It will be a Eucharist service (you can download here), however, variations according to the season will be used. Sadly, Mary cannot consecrate bread and wine in your home by Zoom so at the time you would normally receive communion there will be a short period of quiet music in which we may welcome Jesus afresh to our hearts and lives. During the service, you are requested to keep your microphones muted. After the service conversation will hopefully be possible.

Please aim to log on no later than 09:45.
