Special Services at St Dunstan's Church

The short act of remembrance and commitment to peace at 11 am on the 11th day of each month to mark the 100th anniversary of World War One continues at the war memorial on the corner of Mill Lane until November 2018. On each occasion a single bell will be tolled 100 times beforehand at St. Dunstan's.

February 14th at 8.00 pm, Ash Wednesday Parish Communion:

As part of this service people can receive ‘the imposition of ashes’: a sign of the cross made with ash on the forehead as a symbol of penitence.

March 11th at 10.00 am, Mothering Sunday Service (without Communion).

This will be a special celebratory service for all ages.

March 25th at 10.00 am Palm Sunday Procession and Passion Narrative (start of Holy Week):

This service starts in the lay-by off the A4010 with a procession to St. Dunstan's. There is an opportunity for children and adults to wave palms branches to remind us of Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. However, the mood soon darkens as we listen to the story leading up to Jesus' crucifixion. Please note that the clocks will have gone forward by one hour.

Monday March 26th at 8.00 pm Stations of the Cross:

We pause for prayer and reflection as we trace the horrific stages that culminated in Jesus' death at Calvary. On the Tuesday and Wednesday evening of Holy Week at 8.00 pm there will be a short service of ‘night prayer’ known as Compline. There is also a sung Communion service on Maundy Thursday at 8 pm that includes the washing of hands, the stripping of the altar and a vigil which reminds us of the events surrounding ‘the last supper’. On Good Friday at 2.00 pm there is a service of readings and reflections ‘at the foot of the Cross’ in St. Dunstan's.

April 1st Easter Sunday:

We meet with other local churches in the Whiteleaf Cross car park at 6.00 am for a short ‘sunrise service’ that starts at 6.10 am above Whiteleaf Cross. This is followed by a bacon sandwich and hot drink. Other services then follow at St. Dunstan's at 8.00 am, 10.00 am and 6.00 pm.
